Red Rocks - 3-Day Sport Climbing Clinic

Overview

With over 2,800 established routes, Red Rock Canyon is one of the largest climbing meccas in the United States. Located just 45 minutes from the Las Vegas airport, this National Conservation Area has world class routes that are accessible to climbers of all ability levels, making it the perfect venue for beginner trad climbers, hard-core sport enthusiasts, and multi-pitch masters alike.

While the Red Rock Canyon area is most popularly known for its vast selection of long and moderate multi-pitch climbs, it is also home to some of the country’s best sport climbing crags!  Red Rock offers a high concentration of well bolted and simply fun sport climbs ranging from 5.easy to 5.13 with low angle slabs, vertical and techy puzzles, and overhanging pump fests.  This course is designed for outdoor climbers who want to learn the skills to push their grade, take on projects, and gain confidence with falling on bolts

Day 1:  We start out with a focus on efficient sport climbing movement and tactics for working out the moves on a route that is difficult.  We will practice sport-aiding, use of the stick clip, and other tricks to conserve energy and keep you safe while you systematically make your way up the pitch.  We also cover safety considerations for sport climbing.  While this is generally the safest form of outdoor rock climbing, we will teach you what to look out for that can result in an unexpected injury.

Day 2: Continuing our clinic on movement, we will begin working on falling practice.  Taking whippers is a part of sport climbing and gaining both confidence and comfort in taking a lead fall on bolts will allow you to fully focus on the climbing moves while minimizing any chances of injury.  Early in the day, students will choose a project route to continue working on through the remainder of the course.

Day 3: The final day is reserved for working on our project routes, which is a climb that is difficult enough that it will take multiple tries to climb it without falling.  Supportive instructors will keep the vibes fun and relaxed while offering expert belays and coaching as students work on their ‘proj’.
